Ozone Therapy for Fertility
- by Kian Kemmer
Ozone Therapy Has a Long History and Can Be Used for Essentially Any Condition
You may be hearing more about ozone therapy lately. While it has been used since the late 1800s, there has been a recent uptick in interest for many reasons – using it for improving fertility is at the top of our list. First, let’s talk about why it should be part of treatment plans. Many professionals who have used and studied ozone for years say it’s too good to be true. To quote Frank Shallenberger, MD from his book, Principles and Applications of Ozone Therapy, “How many therapies can you say are entirely safe, completely non-toxic, easy to use, inexpensive, and have a very favorable effect on auto-immune disease, cancer, arthritis, infectious disease, inflammatory diseases, chronic and acute pain, life extension, and cardiovascular disease? None that I can think of except ozone therapy.”
Ozone Causes Your Body to Use It’s Own Innate Healing Capabilities to Heal Itself
This is also how acupuncture works and is one of the many reasons Garden Acupuncture chose to incorporate it into our treatment options. So what is ozone therapy anyways? Acupuncture uses the Qi in your body to induce wellness while ozone uses oxygen. Science shows that disease is caused by decreased oxygen utilization which causes increased free radical formation and decreased anti-oxidant buffering capacity which destroys mitochondria. Ozone therapy increases your body's antioxidant buffering enzymes which heals mitochondria and in turn improves health and degenerative diseases, while also slowing down aging. It helps counteract cell mutations which can prevent some types of cancers. Strengthening the immune system, stimulating white blood cells, helping red blood cells to transport oxygen, and improving both circulation and general cell function are more of the physiological actions of Ozone. During an ozone sauna treatment, you can expect to eliminate toxins as it is a very strong antioxidant. Ozone also has a disinfecting ability, which means it can be used safely to treat fungal, bacterial, and viral infections.
Recent Studies Find Ozone Therapy Improves Fertility In Women and Men
Ozone therapy can be used at any age, but it’s especially helpful for women 35 and older who wish to improve vaginal health and ovarian function while increasing the chances of successful IVF and pregnancy. Administered by trained professionals using specialized technology, it provides a wide range of benefits with few—if any—drawbacks.
Whether someone is trying to conceive naturally or with the help of IUI or IVF, ozone therapy can help improve a multitude of needs including egg quality, low ovarian reserve, thin endometrial lining, inflammatory diseases of the uterus/vagina, recurrent pregnancy loss, poor response to IVF, and poor sperm count/morphology/motility.

So What is Ozone Sauna Therapy?
Ozone sauna therapy is exactly what it sounds like. It is a steam sauna with ozone added. The sauna is a single-person pod that encapsulates your body from the neck down. It is used to keep the steam and ozone contained because ozone can irritate the lungs if breathed in in large amounts. Sessions typically last around 20 minutes. The detoxification process can pull visible toxins out of your body. So when you are done with your session, be sure to check the towel you sat on for signs your body has sweated out some unwanted gunk. You will sweat a significant amount. So afterward, drink a lot of water to rehydrate yourself. Some people feel energized, some feel a little fatigued, your skin will likely feel nice and soft, and you might feel calm as your muscles will likely be much more relaxed. In addition to ozone being absorbed by the skin within the sauna, ozone enters the reproductive system through a thin tube, vaginally self-inserted by the patient. This addition is only used during specific times of the woman’s cycle.
Know Before You Go:
-
Ideally, you should wait 1-2 hours after eating before entering the ozone sauna.
-
Do not take antihistamines beforehand.
-
Hydrate before and after as you sweat significantly and need to replenish water and electrolytes.
Contraindications:
Please consult your physician before using an ozone sauna. You should not use this therapy if you are pregnant or might be pregnant, have cancer or any advanced disease, have heart disease, or have had a heart attack.
